When good rehabilitative skills are in place, the home health client is often able to reach his or her fullest potential. This program will assist your home health aides in developing the skills to enable their clients to attain the maximum rehabilitation potential.


OBJECTIVES At the conclusion of the program, the learner will be able to:

  • Describe the goals of rehabilitative nursing.
  • List possible signs of difficulty eating or swallowing that should be reported.
  • List nursing techniques for eating/swallowing problems.
  • Identify three common positions for patients in bed.
  • Identify the purpose of range of motion exercises and which clients can be taught.
  • Perform range of motion with patients in the home.
  • Demonstrate a transfer using a mechanical lifter.
  • Identify assistive aids for safety in the home.
  • List three “don'ts” for home care of a patient with a total hip replacement.
  • Identify changes to watch for in the condition of the patient at home.
  • Discuss documentation and reporting guidelines.
